it's definitely going to twitter, at least my internet friends are. r/l friends seem to be migrating to facebook. i don't know a lot of people who blog writing things to tumblr, it seems to be like, a photo blog to be associated with twitter now.
why does everyone hate twitter? name me 3 good reasons why twitter is soooo awful. twitter is a medium, same as livejournal. because it's widely used there's more likely to be vapid homogenous things popular, but if you're actually following people whose info you WANT to read, it's not that bad.
Okay, I might have been a bit harsh; I can see why it's useful for some people but I don't understand how you can get a fully-formed thought out in under 140 characters...not that I think "longer = better" but I don't see how it can replace journaling sites. I was away from LJ for a long long time but it held such a huge place in my online social life for an even longer time, it's weird to come back and have things be a bit less 'active' and it's even weirder to think of people switching from journal entries to SMS-length bursts of thought. Hell, I can barely get my sentences to under 140 characters most of the time. So my three reasons are basically
1. I'm verbose 2. I'm stubborn 3. no actually mostly I just like to be wordy
(and I swear I didn't just pop out of nowhere to bitch at you...)
twitter, for me, is a quick-update medium. i still have blogs and write in journals (private or public), but a lot of my friends currently have moved on from spending a lot of time on the computer writing lengthy entries, to just writing about small things that happen on a day-to-day basis. for that, it's more of a 'better than not talking to that person at all' sort of thing. for a writer, i can see how it's constricting. however, you can use it to sort of a practice medium... see what you can fit in 140 characters. like a constant haiku sort of thing. but i wouldn't recommend -just- twitter. i've been doing that the last couple of months and my thoughts are shortening into tweets. i'd hate to think how i'd be thinking if i wasn't reading constantly..
at the time that i switched to more twitter than LJ, i'd come to the conclusion that no one really gives a crap about what i write about on a day-to-day basis. for you, they do. you actually write good things.
Like, I use tumblr A. LOT. But I still make my whole ~life~ posts here because if people on my flist had to deal with my endless Supernatural spam, they'd all unfriend me.
Plus, I can't just abandon my LJ. It's been with me for, like, ten years now.
I can't say I use Livejournal anymore either. Most of the folks i know who used it moved to blogger, wordpress, and use tumblr mostly fir s#!ts and giggles.
